The Role:

TIME is seeking a VP of Software Engineering to lead our Engineering team. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will play a crucial role in developing the company’s engineering strategy, vision, roadmap, and you will ship software products that will enable explosive growth for TIME.

Responsibilities:

• Manage a team of software engineers (frontend, backend, and DevOps). Provide mentorship, active task planning, and doing code reviews.
• Lead the software and DevOps strategy for TIME’s Digital products including TIME.com, TIMEforKids, TIME for Health, TIME for Learning, Video streaming solutions, Mobile Apps, and Ad Tech products.
• Work along with Product, Data, Infrastructure, Edit, Sales, and Marketing teams to ensure we are building and delivering the best products for TIME.
• Drive technical projects and provide leadership in an innovative and fast-paced environment.
• Take responsibility for the planning, execution, and success of complex technical projects.
• Contribute to projects in the form of writing code, debugging, architecting, designing, and maintaining software platforms.
• Make independent decisions on architectural problems and methods. This includes coming up with new and improved architectural techniques and procedures.
• Constantly improve developer productivity and application performance.
• Leverage application best practices to solve current and future product needs.
• Track and analyze web and mobile application performance metrics.

Qualifications:

• BS in Computer Science, related degree, or practical experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on technical leadership and people management experience. Managing teams of 8 or more developers.
• Hands-on or prior deep programming experience in at least one of the following: Java, C++, Python, React JS, React Native, Node JS.
• Experience with cloud platforms like GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Demonstrated expertise in problem-solving and technical innovation, capable of “rolling-up sleeves and getting hands dirty”.

Preferred qualifications:



• MS in Computer Science or related degree.
• 10 years of relevant industry experience (Media, publishing, or media tech).
• 7+ years of hands-on technical leadership and people management experience.
• Strong knowledge and experience with Agile / Scrum methodologies.
