Overview
Deerfield Discovery and Development, LLC (3DC) is the drug discovery and development arm of Deerfield Management Company, L.P. (“Deerfield”), an investment firm dedicated to advancing healthcare, and is engaged in drug discovery research in collaboration with faculty from top universities across the United States. 3DC plays a critical role in identifying and progressing early-stage therapeutics from scientific discovery through clinical proof of concept, via rigorous due diligence of proposals, and design and execution of relevant experiments for approved projects. 3DC partners closely with principal investigators in Deerfield’s academic collaboration network, corporate and CRO partners to progress projects to value inflection points, and partners with Deerfield’s investment colleagues to execute the optimal monetization strategy for each project.
The VP, Academic Outreach will drive the outreach strategy for our 18 and growing academic collaborations with the goal of building a differentiated portfolio of innovative therapeutics projects and enhancing and expanding our relationships at each institution. This individual will lead the outreach capability by working through the Scientific Collaboration Directors (SCDs) at each of our academic partner institutions. The SCDs are Deerfield’s representatives at each of our partner institutions and are responsible for the Deerfield-Institution relationship and for sourcing therapeutics projects for the 3DC portfolio. The VP, Academic Outreach will also leverage the 3DC team to identify high-potential projects for funding. The VP, Academic Outreach will be a critical interface between Deerfield and our academic partners. This role reports directly to the CEO of 3DC.
