This senior-level trainer ( Addiction Studies) teaches in the OTI CASAC program and Outreach University and occasionally provides training for external agency customers. The Senior Trainer assists in evaluating program applicants, provides advisement for OTI students, places students into internships, helps students to find employment, and conducts internship supervision. (This position is hybrid: in-office and remote work; 3 days in-office, 2 days remote possible.) Supervised by the OTI Director.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaches students in OTI CASAC training program, Outreach staff in the Outreach University program, and staff in external agencies that contract with OTI, virtually and in-person. Reviews student assignments.
Conducts interviews and evaluations of program applicants and provides feedback to the administrative team and Director. Serves on and participates in the Admissions Committee.
Provides advisement/academic counseling to OTI students referred by the administrative team and Director.
Conducts weekly internship group supervision of OTI student interns. Provides supervision of the OTI Internship Consultant.
Places OTI students into approved internships and assists students who need help finding employment. Seeks out and maintains relationships with OASAS-licensed agencies and Outreach program directors to secure appropriate internships/employment possibilities for students, develops inter-agency agreements, monitors students’ performance as interns through regular communication with the internship site supervisors and students, and troubleshoots any difficulties in the placement.
Creates and modifies curriculum as needed to meet customer and agency needs. Submits new courses to OASAS for approval.
Assures compliance with OASAS and SED regulations and policies related to training and staff development and any requirements related to grant funding.
Assists in evaluating the effectiveness of training courses and programs and modifies them as needed to maximize their efficacy.
Assists the Director in promoting OTI services and represents OTI in the community.
Qualifications: Experienced trainer with a minimum of 5- year’s experience working in an educational setting related to the provision of behavioral health educational curriculum is preferred. At least three years clinical experience in behavioral health is required.
Certificates and Licenses: A master’s degree is required and a CASAC is desirable.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Understanding of OASAS requirements for CASAC and staff training. (Familiarity with OMH requirements is a plus.) Excellent training, writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills. The ability to manage difficult situations with composure and flexibility and to work effectively with diverse populations and personalities. Competency using electronic teaching platforms. A professional demeanor and the ability to model congruence with ethical codes of professional conduct is a must.
Knowledge and skill in motivational interviewing and other evidence-based practices in behavioral health is strongly preferred.
Must be able to travel locally throughout the city and metropolitan area, and in the tri-state region.
