e.l.f. Cosmetics is looking for a creative Package Designer to join our dynamic, fast paced team.

As the Package Designer, you will be responsible for carrying out the execution of package designs to meet design direction within brand, manufacturing and cost constraints. You will also handle multiple projects across up to two of the e.l.f. Beauty brands, working under the Design Director’s supervision along with others in the multi-disciplinary team to create, turn over and develop designs. You will also drive to timely development of high quality and innovative packages based on customer requirements, manufacturability, wall space, and marketing objectives.

The best candidate for the Package Designer role will have 3+ years’ package development experience in a high volume, deadline-driven environment – package design in prestige beauty is a plus. We are looking for someone with strong and refined typography skills, color matching experience, some knowledge of sustainability best practices and with experience designing PR boxes and kits as a definite plus. You should also understand how to balance business goals with creative vision with the ability to meet stringent deadlines and quickly managing changing priorities. We are also looking for someone who is aware of trends and new ideas within beauty and social, with ability to interpret those into high performing brand right creative. Finally, being able to embrace e.l.f.’s dynamic culture of executing with speed and quality to drive solutions is a must.

Reporting to a Design Director, this role will be based in our Flatiron District office in New York City which has re-opened in a hybrid model of three days in the office and two days at home. Please note that e.l.f. requires full vaccination for our employees.

Detailed responsibilities and requirements for this role

Responsibilities

• Design on brand cost-efficient packaging while maintaining technical accuracy and design aesthetics across e.l.f. beauty brands
• Drive timely development of high quality, innovative packages based on customer requirements, manufacturability, wall space, and marketing objectives.
• Oversee day-to-day management of package development and liase with Design team and China New Product Development team daily to follow up on sample development, modifications etc.
• Drive company-wide environmental initiatives through material reduction, use of post-consumer recycled resin and other sustainability targets.
• Maintain harmonized packaging design principles as layed out by the Harmony team
• Strong knowledge of beauty trends to create thumb stopping designs for packaging, pr kits, social media, swag and collaborations
• Create cross-functional internal partnerships in conjunction with innovation, design, marketing, NPD and operational teams.

Requirements

• Package development experience, preferably in prestige beauty
• Strong and refined typography skills
• Technical knowledge in beauty packaging a plus
• Color matching expertise
• Ability to think quickly and pivot with design objectives
• Ability to balance multiple projects at once
• Experience designing PR boxes and kits a plus
• Highly organized; Communicate information clearly and effectively with team members
• Ability to meet stringent deadlines, quickly managing changing priorities
• Some knowledge of sustainability best practices
• Ability to anticipate workload and communicate proactively to Project Manager
• Bachelor’s Degree
• 3+ years experience in a high volume, deadline-driven environment: fashion and/or beauty industry experience.
• Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills, deadline driven.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative manner and a highly creative out-of-the-box thinker
• Knowledge of computer programs including: Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop
• Current on fashion, beauty, design and digital trends
