Position Summary:

The Occupational therapist facilitates the delivery optimal care for students at iHOPE by providing, coordinating and supporting prescribed occupational therapy programs in the educational and home and community settings for students attending the program.

Essential Functions:

· Consults with families to ensure that student’s needs are being met in a manner consistent with caregiver and family expectations

· Adheres to and supplements the student’s mandate and goals from their Individual Educational Plan as needed depending on the student’s IEP

· Safe and maximally effective evaluation of baseline skills in line with policy of department.

· Determines the frequency, intensity and plan for therapeutic intervention related to the performance of school-based activities, including academics (all classroom and school program activities), self-care (including feeding, dressing, toileting hygiene activities and others), leisure/play, community and prevocational activities as relevant.

· Designs, plans and provide therapeutic interventions for students that effectively increase participation of students in school related activities (academic/preacademic; self-care, play, community, etc.) that may be remedial/restorative, compensatory, or change in activity or environment.

· Documents and monitors provision of service and student progress in a timely manner in line with policies of organization, governing bodies and in language comprehensible to caregivers

· Communicates and collaborates with parents, team members and medical professionals as needed related to health, equipment use, participation in activities and other relevant factors

· Measures, orders, communicates, with vendor/providers of adaptive equipment and orthotics.

· Fabricates, maintains, modifies and trains staff on and monitors use of adaptive equipment and orthotics.

· Attends and participates in scheduled supervision, department meetings and activities.

· Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

· Bachelors’ Degree in Occupational Therapy required.

· NYS licensure in Occupational therapy required.

· Graduate degree or equivalent preferred.

· One to Three years of relevant OT experience preferred

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Must be well organized with superior attention to detail and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

· Able to work with a great degree of independence and focus.

· Maintains professional attitude when dealing with outside vendors.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs.
