Make an Impact! OPWDD is hiring a lifeguard in the Capital District for Summer 2023. Lifeguard will have primary responsibility for supervision, protection, and safety of people with developmental disabilities while using the pool at their homes. Salary: $20 per hour. Duties include: Swimming evaluations, monitoring the people while they are in the pool, providing recreational swimming activities, writing curriculum for water safety, and assisting staff with swimming and socialization skills. Minimum qualifications: Must be 18 years old and possess current certificates in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, Lifeguard Waterfront module and CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent certifications from an approved agency. The New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) is responsible for coordinating services for New Yorkers with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, Prader-Willi syndrome and other neurological impairments. It provides services directly and through a network of approximately 500 nonprofit service providing agencies, with about 80 percent of services provided by the private nonprofits and 20 percent provided by state-run services.
