HistoWiz is a histology service company in NYC that process animal tissue specimens and digitizes the results for biomedical researchers in research and industry. We are looking for a Histology Manager with extensive experience in research specimens to join the team, in a full-time capacity. Under the general direction of the Director of Laboratory Operations, the Histology Manager will apply a working knowledge of Histotechnician-related duties and management experience to lead the team.
Main duties:
Manage attendance, quality, and standards of the Histology Lab
Monitor the workflow and adjusts lab policies and procedures as needed
Propose any staffing needs and participate in the recruitment process
oversee instruments/equipment and supplies needed to ensure the lab runs smoothly
Serves as the primary point of contact with clients to provide information and take requests for services
Establishes lab procedures, creates and manages lab-related documentation and organizes laboratory activities
Familiar with the regulatory requirements specific to the lab and ensures all users are in compliance with those standards
Update and maintain the Lab Safety Plan/Manual
Anticipate potential problems and help staff to resolve them as they occur to get back on schedule
Ensures lab users have been trained on the correct use of the lab equipment, in addition to mentoring and disciplining lab users for not following safety policies/procedures that have been established for the lab
Schedules safety training for new lab users and retraining for lab users who are in need of refresher training to include but not be limited to: equipment training, safety training and/or lab safety plan reviews and ensure the training has been documented
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or a related subject plus at least two years of technical experience in a histology laboratory
Two years supervisory experience required
Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) is required
Experience in preclinical research setting preferred
Flexible work schedule and ability to work a late / weekend shift preferred
Must be detail-oriented, careful and have high integrity and discipline
Excellent communication skills and work well in a team environment
