aVenture is a San Francisco, California (USA) based financial technology startup building the future of venture capital research software . Our mission is to make venture capital investing more accessible and safer for everyone with better data.

aVenture is currently participating in the prestigious Techstars New York City accelerator (where less than 1% of startup/founder applicants are admitted) and is looking for an exceptional engineer to join our founding team. Joining our team would instantly bring you into the Techstars program and all of its resources for life.

This is a hybrid position that requires you to spend part of your time in person in an office.

Job Overview: We’re looking for a founding engineer with experience as a full-stack engineer, including managing large datasets and building scalable infrastructure to lead our engineering and data science efforts. You will work closely and directly with the founding team to get products to market.

1. Key Responsibilities:

• Shape the Technical Vision: Be a strategic thinker, collaborating with the founding team to define the technical roadmap, architecture, and technology stack for our groundbreaking product

• Build the Engine: Own the entire software development lifecycle, from conception to deployment, writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code for both front and back-end systems

• Master of All Trades: Wear multiple hats, designing user interfaces, building secure APIs, optimizing databases, and ensuring overall system performance

• Experiment and Iterate: Be an agile development champion, constantly testing, measuring, and learning to refine your approach and deliver optimal solutions

• Foster a Growth Mindset: Create a positive and collaborative engineering culture, mentor other engineers, and share your knowledge to build a high-performing team

• Be a Team Player: Work closely with founders, designers, and other departments to ensure the product aligns with user needs and business goals

2. Requirements:

• Technical Prowess: 5+ years of experience with full-stack development, proficiency in modern web technologies (e.g., React, Next.js, Node.js, Python) and databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)

• Architectural Acumen: A strong understanding of software architecture principles, microservices, and best practices for scalability and security

• Problem-Solving Ninja: Ability to think critically, reduce complex problems into manageable tasks, and find creative solutions

• Startup Spirit: Passion for building new things, embracing uncertainty, and thriving in a fast-paced environment

• Self-Starter with Initiative: Be proactive, adaptable, and take ownership of your work, driving projects forward with minimal supervision

• Excellent Communication: Collaborate effectively with stakeholders at aVenture, Techstars, and venture capital firms, clearly communicate technical concepts, and write concise documentation

• AI/ML: Understanding and practical experience in deploying AI and Large Language Models in a research and financial context

3. What We Offer:

• An Early Opportunity: A founding role at a fintech backed by Techstars based in Silicon Valley and led by an experienced fintech CEO with a previous successful exit for the founding team

• Compensation: This position is to join our founding team and has a tiered approach to compensation, providing an initial salary of $50,000 – $100,000, plus an equity issuance of 5-10% of the company’s stock

Companies backed by Techstars typically go on to raise an investment round of > $1,000,000 following program completion and demo day. Salary and compensation will be adjusted to reflect market rates following the next fundraising round.
