Job Opportunity: Distinguished Engineer, Generative AI Systems

We are looking for an experienced Senior Distinguished Engineer to join our team at Capital One. As a Distinguished Engineer, you will play a crucial role in building the foundations of our enterprise AI capabilities. You will work on a variety of projects, such as designing secure infrastructure, building large-scale training clusters, deploying real-time AI models, and supporting cutting-edge AI research. Your work will be essential in transforming how we serve our customers and businesses.

Responsibilities include:

– Designing and building fault-tolerant infrastructure for large-scale training tasks, ensuring reliability even in the face of individual node failures.
– Building infrastructure for serving large machine learning models on our public cloud platform.
– Optimizing storage and networking stack for a thousand-node training cluster, leveraging parallelism strategies to enhance performance.
– Creating benchmarks to measure the performance of software systems within AI capabilities and providing recommendations for technology selection.
– Developing applications that leverage advanced machine learning models.
– Implementing capabilities to support MLOps for foundation models.

Basic Qualifications:

– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
– At least 7 years of experience designing and building distributed computing and large-scale machine learning systems.
– At least 5 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms in Python or C/C++.
– At least 3 years of experience with the full ML development lifecycle using AI and ML frameworks and public cloud platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

– Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, with a focus on modern AI techniques.
– Experience designing large-scale distributed platforms and systems in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
– Strong knowledge of cloud architecture for security, availability, performance, scalability, and cost.
– Experience with MLOps for large models, from exploration to serving.
– Expertise in building GPU clusters in the public cloud with optimized storage and networking.
– Familiarity with ML frameworks such as Pytorch, Tensorflow, and Lightning.
– Experience in areas of AI technology stack, including prompt engineering, guardrails, vector databases/knowledge bases, LLM hosting and fine-tuning.
– Published research in top peer-reviewed conferences or recognized contributions in the field of neural networks, distributed training, and SysML.

Salary Range (full-time):

– New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $269,400 – $307,500
– San Francisco, California (Hybrid On-Site): $285,400 – $325,700
– Remote (Regardless of Location): $228,300 – $260,600
