Job Title: Distinguished Applied Researcher at Capital One

Team Description:
The AI Foundations team is responsible for bringing our AI vision to life at Capital One. We collaborate with academia and work on every aspect of the research life cycle. Our team partners with product, technology, and business leaders to apply the latest AI advancements to our business.

Role Description:
As a Distinguished Applied Researcher at Capital One, you will play a strategic role in shaping our AI initiatives. You will collaborate with applied science, engineering, and product leaders across the organization. While not directly managing a team, you will mentor and guide a group of applied scientists and their managers. You will also represent Capital One in the research community and collaborate with influential faculty members.

Responsibilities:
– Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop AI-powered products that revolutionize customer interactions with their finances.
– Utilize a range of technologies (such as Pytorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning, VectorDBs) to analyze large volumes of data and extract valuable insights.
– Build AI foundation models through various stages of development, from design to implementation.
– Conduct applied research to incorporate the latest AI advancements into customer experiences.
– Communicate the complexities of your work in a way that aligns with business goals.

Qualifications:
– Ph.D. with at least 4 years of experience in Applied Research, or a Master’s degree with at least 6 years of experience in Applied Research.
– Strong technical skills, including experience with open-source languages and developing AI models.
– Deep understanding of AI methodologies and experience building large deep learning models.
– Track record of delivering models at scale in terms of both training data and inference volumes.
– Experience delivering code solutions to existing products.
– Demonstrated ability to generate new ideas or enhance existing ideas in machine learning.
– Ability to independently pursue research projects and define impactful research problems.

Salary and Incentives:
The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role in McLean, Virginia are:

– New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $322,000 – $367,500
– San Francisco, California (Hybrid On-Site): $341,200 – $389,400

Candidates hired for other locations will be subject to the pay range specific to that location.
