Distinguished Applied Researcher

We are looking for an Applied Researcher to join our AI Foundations team and help us bring the transformative power of AI to our customers and businesses.

Team Description:

The AI Foundations team is at the center of bringing our vision for AI at Capital One to life. We work with product, technology, and business leaders to apply the latest AI advancements to our business.

Role Description:

As an Applied Researcher, you will be an individual contributor driving strategic direction through collaboration with Applied Science, Engineering, and Product leaders. You will guide and mentor a team of applied scientists and their managers, representing Capital One in the research community.

Responsibilities:

– Partner with a cross-functional team to deliver AI-powered products that change how customers interact with their money
– Use technologies like Pytorch, AWS Ultraclusters, and Huggingface to reveal insights from large volumes of data
– Build AI foundation models from design to implementation
– Engage in high impact applied research to improve customer experiences
– Translate the complexity of your work into tangible business goals

Key Responsibilities:

– Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered platforms and solutions
– Build AI foundation models from design to implementation

– Translate complex work into tangible business goals

Basic Qualifications:

– PhD plus at least 4 years of experience in Applied Research or M.S. plus at least 6 years of experience in Applied Research

Preferred Qualifications:

– PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related fields
– Experience with NLP and large language models
– Expertise in topics like training optimization, self-supervised learning, and robustness
– Experience delivering libraries, platform level code, or solution level code
– Proven track record of research and publication in machine learning

Salary Range:

– New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $322,000 – $367,500
– San Francisco, California (Hybrid On-site): $341,200 – $389,400
