Position Overview
As the leader of KIPP NYC’s Technology Team and reporting directly to the President, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) will provide leadership in developing and implementing the vision for technology at KIPP NYC. In addition to serving as a vital thought partner to the President, the CIO will ensure that the Technology team delivers excellent service while meeting all aspects of the instructional and operational technology needs of SST and our network of schools and students.
This role is based in NYC and will require travel to our schools. Cadence and frequency of travel to schools is determined by your leadership team. If you relocate outside of a commutable distance or out of the state of NY, your employment will be subject to review, which may include separation from KIPP NYC. It is important that you notify HR if you move or have plans to relocate.
Responsibilities:
The Chief Information Officer will be responsible for the following scope of work:
Strategic Leadership & Systems Building
Develop a vision for the technology team that drives towards a modernized and integrated technology stack, provides agile support and service to schools and the Shared Services Team (SST), and is responsive to changing technologies and the organization’s needs, in collaboration from the Technology team, school and SST staff.
Conduct a gap analysis against this vision that assesses current state processes, tools, and support structures, and documents data and network maps against this vision
Develop, socialize, and implement a 5-year modernization strategy and roadmap
Proactively manage roadmap priorities by developing systems to surface the new and unmet technology needs of students, SST, and school-based staff
Assess and report on the roadmap regularly to KIPP NYC leadership and staff
Stakeholder Management
Drive the adoption and modernization of KIPP NYC’s technology stack; support technology team members and key stakeholders in developing operational efficiencies across the organization by leveraging current and adopting new systems platforms and applications
Galvanize support for and act as ambassador of all KIPP NYC technology implementations and products; invest stakeholders across the institution through active listening, coalition building, and transparent communication
Participate in institution-wide initiatives, committees, and events, including but not limited to: KIPP Network convenings and communities of practice, funder meetings and events, board and committee meetings and events
Team Management & Coaching
Lead a strong, healthy, and performance-driven culture for all technology staff members, where ambitious annual goals are met annually
Provide timely, accurate and objective feedback and serve as a role model for continuous improvement and service commitment, while attracting, developing and retaining top IT talent.
Establish and maintain an atmosphere of innovation and creativity so that team members are continually assessing and adopting appropriate technologies to meet KIPP NYC’s needs
Compliance Management
Ensure IT data security, risk management, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning processes are in place and receive regular review for currency and adequacy
Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and utilization of resources
Serve as the key liaison between the institution and various state or external organizations for matters related to the uses of information technology
Budget & Vendor Management
Connect with school and SST leaders to understand current state purchasing processes and plans; develop and implementation recommendations for improvement, prioritizing stakeholder buy-in during the process
In partnership with school and SST leaders, negotiate, manage and oversee vendor contracts for hardware, software, and technology related services
In partnership with schools and SST staff, lead efforts to understand the total cost of ownership for system and infrastructure projects and to develop proposed budgets for the work; once approved manage the budget with fidelity
In partnership with the Technology team, school, and SST key stakeholders, develop and prepare the annual departmental budget to meet anticipated expenditures
Personal & Professional Development
Maintain knowledge of the education technology landscape, industry compliance requirements, and the ways technology supports the teaching-learning environment
Maintain professional contacts with other CMOs, hardware and software vendors, and professional organizations concerning existing and developing information technologies
Represent KIPP NYC externally, as appropriate, in technology matters and in cooperation with appropriate external organizations
Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate
