Assistant Facilities Program Coordinator
SUNY Upstate Medical University is currently seeking an Assistant Facilities Program Coordinator to join the Facilities Engineering department. The Facilities Engineering (FE) department provides technical support to the Design & Construction (DC) department as well as to the Physical Plant (maintenance & operations) groups at both of Upstate’s Hospitals. This open position is for a candidate with either electrical or mechanical background and experience. This position will assist with infrastructure planning, provide technical support to DC & FE’s project managers and engineers, provide design reviews and basic design for projects, and will help complete standardization related to mechanical and/or electrical systems. As a project manager on selected projects, this position will be responsible for all aspects of design and construction of assigned capital projects, including establishing the project scope of work, budget, and scheduling, coordinating all project activities and communication, facilitating of project intent by all parties, management of expectations, from planning throughout completion of construction and project close out, including budget control, contracts, and payments. The ideal candidate will assist in resolving technical matters, will assist with monitoring project budgets and tracking, and will work to build and maintaining relationships with Contractors, Design Professionals and all University Departments. This position will report to the Director, Facilities Engineering.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, or building construction, or related field; and a minimum of 3 years related experience OR an Associate’s degree with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience; Must have either: a) experience and training in designing commercial building electrical systems (power, lighting) and be knowledgeable with specialty electrical systems (such as fire alarm, nurse call, medical gas alarms, or paging systems); or b) have experience and training in designing commercial building mechanical systems (hvac, plumbing, fire protection) and be knowledgeable with specialty mechanical systems (such as ductwork, piping, plumbing, medical gas, or sprinkler systems). Must be able to oversee multiple projects from start to finish and assist with all project management. Excellent written/oral communication skills and strong computer skills required. Familiar with project management software, Autodesk products and Microsoft Office also required.
