Chapter Leader – Director Software Engineering
The Role
We’re looking for a passionate engineering leader to join Engineering Excellence chapter to lead a team of dynamic engineers contributing to development and testing of digital products serving retail customers. Ideal candidate has a strong background in development, testing and CI/CD practices for web and API applications with a passion for leveraging the right tools and frameworks to develop stable, robust, and resilient apps that best serves our customer base.
In an agile structure, you will collaborate with other engineering leaders to establish testing and CI/CD standards for your chapter and influence strategic decisions on building digital solutions to serve our customer needs. You are committed in building a healthy team environment and has a passion for coaching, mentoring, and developing associates to their fullest potential.
The Expertise and Skills You Bring
Leader who serves and is committed to developing engineering talent
Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain strong partnerships and relationships at all levels of the organization
Experienced in designing and building large scale distributed systems with web and API micro applications.
Experienced in defining testing best practices along with DevOps practices with standard quality gates in CI/CD pipelines including Unit, Component, Functional, Performance, and Security test with automation.
Good knowledge of Resiliency Software Engineering and Observability patterns
Certifications in, or working experience with, AWS/Azure
Passion for leading, coaching, mentoring, and developing people and teams
Experience identifying and acquiring talent needs, resource planning, and talent allocation across large organizations
Direct management of software engineer teams composing ~15 engineers
Ensuring organization talent composition aligns with strategic business priorities including workforce planning vital to provide increased value and results for clients and the business
Supporting and empowering associates, to enable delivery of increased value in their teams
Enabling an agile and streamlined organization by demonstrating agile behaviors
Proactively partnering with leadership in product areas, business units, and center of excellence to drive critical initiatives
Influence strategic backlog and prioritization decisions
Measure performance through established objectives and critical metrics
Align associates across teams and product areas to ensure the best utilization of talent while also building learning opportunities and content to develop skills
Set and apply standards and ensure the work performed is aligned with established road maps
Remove impediments to delivering value
Actively share insights, knowledge, industry practices and developments across the organization.
The Team
The Engineering Excellence chapter resides in the Personal Investment (PI) business unit of Fidelity Investments. The chapter consists of over 245 multi-stacked engineers with a passion around customer experience and with the engineering tool set to seek challenges including: application development, functional testing, performance testing, chaos testing, application cloud migration, CI/CD implementation and security testing. The chapter’s support spans across all of PI and provides domain specialists to squads who develop products with the highest customer quality, security, stability, and experience. This role is a technical and people leadership position within the EE chapter.
